18z gfs doesn’t even weaken it from whatever it initializes it at

Completely fwiw at this point, better to observe. Reconnoissance  and watch for ERCs, diurnal cycles, steering and or shear and ocean heat potential

Wind speed on dropsonde in the eye was 28 mph at the surface, 36 peak.  Not so bad given its 4 miles.

I assume it just polished off an erc but it’s so hard to tell with it intensifying so fast, would have been its second erc I think

For sure, Rita and Katrina were from eaws I assume, Camille spawned just south of Hispaniola

Milton was born, bred and will make landfall in the Gulf of Mexico

Don’t remember anything exactly like this

If I was an Elon musk or bezos type billionaire I'd have a former hurricane hunter flying my personal jet. I'm guessing it takes quite a bit to rattle these guys.

Considering alone - that we made it to the W name.

28 storms that year.  We made it into the Greek alphabet that year.   2005 broke many different records, but I won't get further OT about it 🙃
