What a tough situation. It looked all day like it was going to stay on the struggle bus only to turn into a scary as hell 150 mph beast in a matter of hours. Such a tough one for them. I think they played it very well and they definitely kept the language in the advisories extremely cautionary without getting caught up splitting hairs about the category. Unfortunately category is all alot of people want to hear. The forecasters do the best they can. They are often screwed for raising alarms or not raising alarms. They can’t win either way. I hope there isn’t a social-media pile-on.

I already see some chatter online about "where are the huge winds?" Well, I doubt very many chasers (if anybody) were positioned on the beach south of Perry given the life threatening storm surge.

Asos/Awos sensor winds shouldn't be what you base a landfilling Cat 4 off of. I'm also not surprised people react this way. They expect instant gratification but unfortunately for them we'll have to wait until daylight before we get a glimpse. 3
Hoosier
Valdosta GA had sustained 102 mph with a gust of 133 mph a little while ago. That is ultra impressive for such an inland location. Edited September 27 by Hoosier 1 1 1
