July 7-11, 2024 | Beryl Heavy Rain/Severe Potential

Recommended Posts

Could take the minute to actually look this up, but I think this is the first remnant tropical system to track into the Ohio Valley/Lakes since 2020 or perhaps 2021.  In any case, it's been some time.

Just speaking for my area... if the models don't back off in the coming hours, then this is shaping up to be the most significant impact from a remnant tropical system since Ike in 2008.

Interesting about the wind gusts. Makes me think of Ike

Yea pretty similar track. Was an awesome experience that day. A bit scary since I was a lot younger.

Cancel the flood watch for my house (there wasn't one).

Perhaps SPC will change the tornado outlook to have a wider 5% tornado risk for the Ohio Valley. Or maybe something different like 10% tornado risk.

Heaviest swath of rain setting up to the northwest of my area, which means a slightly elevated spin-up threat for MBY. Can’t wait for the rain though. Solid inch coming. Much needed here.

Got a feeling we are going to see several tornadoes today but should be ef1 or lower

I agree. Also think Spc needs to expand the slight risk to at least Dayton

Interesting look on the radar now.  There are some echoes moving southwest around Peoria, while the larger precipitation shield lifts northeastward.

New outlook mentions how tornado threat could last well into the night for southern Indiana/Ohio

It is essentially a Gulf coast atmosphere in place tonight, and nocturnal tornadoes are quite common near the Gulf coast.  So yeah, won't have the degree of near surface stabilization overnight that we'd usually see in the region.

The heavier precip bands on radar seem north of where much of the guidance had depicted, so anybody riding the northern edge of the heavy band on the models may have reason to think the outcome will be on the wetter side.

New tornado watch just issued until midnight eastern. Pretty impressive probabilities for low end tornados included.

I slept through the outbreak yesterday because I've been on midnights so I'm not exactly sure what it looked like prior to the outbreak, but seeing a lot of sunshine/mid-level drying in the 'warm sector' today. Not a scenario like Ike, but could be a bad situation for different reasons for the region.
