Moderators telejunkie Posted April 3 Moderators Share Posted April 3 Winds already blowing hard enough to cause some downed limbs on roads...heard a big crack as I was getting into my car to leave Manchester. The Merlins nesting high up in a pine tree at the Manchester house didn't seem too happy about the winds either. Already one fire call today...see how many we can rack up over the next couple days. Got a mix of sleet/rain with temp at 39F back in Danby. Kids already have after-school activities cancelled. 2 1
nfranken
Terrible wind gusts in Pottsville right now. I keep looking out my window expecting a tree to fall. I'm pretty sure I remember reading a write up from State College yesterday saying winds shouldn't be mixing down. They certainly are right now. Hopefully they die down soon. 2
longislander
Bad wind and rain on the south shore of LI right now. Appears like its going to last for many hours. 1
TheRex
After a low of 40, we are currently at 47 after touching 48 earlier. I think the temp is on the downswing now. I can see snow showers to my west in the Adirondacks and I can see snow showers to my southeast in the Green Mountains. I confirmed snow flakes were falling at Mad River Glen. We haven't had any rain here yet but we did have a little graupel fall earlier.

Yup....dropping as we wet bulb since DPs are still in the 20s regionally. I'm down to 36F now. Sleet starting to accumulate in wind protected spots. NHSparky
Rain is starting in southern NH currently. Curious to see how this one pans out with 3-6 inches of heavy wet snow forecasted. Plows on the truck and the generator is ready. 1 1
Moderators telejunkie Posted April 3 Moderators Share Posted April 3 Transitioned to snow for the moment...radar looks like a heavy band of sleet is coming in. Cool (said facetiously)...looks like my little stretch of road between two mountains looks to be shaded in purple next the Route 7 sign...Mendon, VT looks to be the real hot spot though.... 2

When I had my place down in Chippenhook, I couldn't believe the wind we would get at times. First summer I owned the house we had a wind storm that knocked a few large trees down that were along my property line but they fell away from the house into an open field. That same storm did a lot of damage in Rutland and Mendon. The house was built in the 1830s so I figured it must can withstand a lot if it was able to make it almost 200 years with all that wind blowing. I hope you don't end up with wind damage or a loss of power. 1
BossaNova
Keeping with the wind threat theme, BOX: Quote Strong to Damaging Winds: Winds begin to ramp up in the afternoon and a strong easterly LLJ begins to push north. Winds just above the surface at 2000 ft will approach 75 knots. Bufkit soundings show mixing potential up to 1500-2000ft across the waters and near the coasts. This could allow for gusts of 55-65mph. Sustained winds could also approach 40mph for several hours tonight. Decided to upgrade the High Wind Watch to a High Winds Warning for all coastal zones. Further inland, the mixing potential does not reach as high and the 2000ft winds are only 55-65 knots. Opted to issue a Wind Advisory for all interior zones that are not included in the High Wind and Winter Storm Warnings. Winds across the interior are expected to be sustained at 20-30 mph with gusts of 50-55mph esspically across the high terrain. 1

TheRex
At 2:30 pm, our current temp is 38 and snow is mixing in with the rain. It looks like it is all snow just a few miles to my east. 1
BossaNova
Is the center of all this out over Lake Michigan? Regardless, system extends (or at least appears to) from the Gulf of Mexico to Hudson Bay. Edit (should have done my homework first) - from BOX/Norton: A strong upper level closed low continues to drop from the Great Lakes and moves east. This closed low will provide the support to rapidly intensify a surface low pressure system over SNE. One more edit - thus far, looks a lot like the graphics MJ posted to kick off the thread. tool483
Temp down to 36, we were at 40 earlier. Certainly feeling colder out there and the wind is starting to pick up. Good luck northerners, this one is looking like a big ol snow dump for you. I'm just wondering if we will be able to switch over here in the valley, I'm thinking it is going to try once that low gets cranking. Already down to 991.

Moderators StretchCT Posted April 3 Moderators Share Posted April 3 (edited) The wind is beating my east side window at the office. Prompted me to check out whats going on. There's a number of sites on the island reporting winds in the 40s and 50s. Westchester too. Edited April 3 by StretchCT 1

Undertakerson2.0
The parent (ULL) is taking its time transferring energy to the coast. In fact, another vort circ near Erie PA maybe trying to establish the path of transfer (as opposed to the DelMarVa one) This diffuse hand off will help me out big time - we've had enough with our 3.8" (at last check)
