b/c that list only shows those that happen AFTER 2040. 🙂

The site has it broken down so many way,

And with quite an array of products by which to view any or any one group - this is the individual one for the event you mention.

One more thing I would add is that at totality, this eclipse seemed a little darker than the 2017 eclipse (admittedly, memory on the precise level of darkness in 2017 has faded).  That would make sense though since the path of totality was wider.  In both cases, I was a mile or two north of the center line, the cloud situation (or lack of) was similar, and I was in an area with just a small amount of building lighting, so it made for a good apples to apples comparison.

The 2045 eclipse has a path of over 150 miles wide, while the 2024 eclipse was like 115-120.  Based on that, and all else being equal, the 2045 eclipse should be darker.

I feel you there, my wife had to fly out for work Monday, I was heartbroken for her and not getting to experience it together, then having to see and hear me talk about it for the next 21 years. Part of the reason for the type of footage I took

Yeah I lowkey felt lonely where I was. I knew she wasn’t going be able to come with my due to her not getting off until 2:30 anyway but I was the only solo person I saw. Everyone else was there with friends, lovers, grandparents, kids… I thought for a moment Sunday night to ask my dad if we wanted to go with me but I didn’t think he’d care about it really so I opted not to but in hindsight I should have drug him along 😂😂. Definitely wanted to spend that moment with my wife.

Why isn't the eclipse of August 2026 not on this list.  It hits Russia, Greenland, Iceland, Portugal and Spain.

I believe this is going to be around sunset, which could be interesting.

I am taking the clouds as a sign to go to Egypt in 27.   I was planning a trip there when the Arab spring happened and had to cancel it.

Having some post-eclipse letdown.  Almost like the feeling after a big snowstorm when the thrill is over and you want more, but this is different.  I don't know what it is, but it makes me reflective and thinking about life on a grand scale.  Anyone else been feeling like this?

I've already got a place to stay in Spain.  A buddy of mine has a house in northern Spain near the cost and I went to his wedding he had there.  It was a summer wedding and I didn't see the sun the three days I was there.   I will have to research this eclipse and see if I should make the effort to go or just wait and try to see the 2027 eclipse.

I think my favorite part of my experience with this eclipse was when my dad noticed the approaching umbra and I snapped a pic of it. I still get chills thinking about it.

I think we burned through a bunch of serotonin and dopamine during the eclipse, not too dissimilar to ravers who took MDMA, or folks who ate some special mushrooms at an Allman Brother's concert.  While the eclipse isn't a "drug" per se, I think the effect on the brain, i.e that release of hormones and the intense emotions, are comparable. The desire to see another might be driven by the brain wanting that rush again.

It's less than 2 minutes at the centerline I believe.

You can go through the last 23 years to see cloud cover on August 12.

Such experiences are not only found by ingesting substances. My wife and I used to experience that "hit" when we'd wake up every morning and (without anything more than water intake) performed our full 90 minute exercise workouts. If we'd skip a day - we'd really miss it at a way we could not put into words. Only my having a surgery - taking me out of commission for months, was enough to break our "dependence".

On another level, I've read studies which posit that our very interactions on all social media (yes, this site included) has an identical dopamine hit. With each "like" or positive reaction, the brains of those in the study group, responded in exactly the same manner (see: amplifyingcognition, for one such source). The amygdala - what a wild and crazy part of our complex brains.

On yet another level, I've dealt with Coke addicts who have a post "high" let down or remorse. Some got very sullen afterwards (while oddly still wishing they had more) for a far longer time than the effect of their DoC. So, like the desire to experience the next totality - satisfaction is hard to come by. Though the induction of their feelings is, arguably, more harmful to the body - the effect on the mind is very much the same.

Me?? I and my love don't really plan on trying to see another. We didn't get a "grand show", yet what we saw was amazing. The only "want" we have now, is to cross another item off our list (likely the Aurora) of really cool things to see/do. Or we've not yet witnessed breaching whales, nor a volcano. Perhaps because my time life ruler grows noticeably shorter each day, my only "want" is to see what the next item on the smorgasbord has to offer. 🙂

Uts,

There is going to be a total solar eclipse moving through your area / my area.  Our area will be in totality!  There is a bit of a problem though...  🤔  🤔    😅

I'll be in the path of totality as well.  We should meet up on that day.  🤪

If you want to see a volcano, there is a volcano in Nicaragua that you drive up and has a parking lot at the rim. They say you can see lava but I didn't see it when I was there.  However, I didn't do the hike around the rim.  The sulfur gas smell was very strong and there is a sign telling you to back into the parking space in case you need to leave quickly.

I've talked to many people over the last week that viewed the eclipse here in northern VT and not one of them said they were underwhelmed with what they saw.  Everybody agrees it was amazing to see and some have mentioned about traveling in the future to experience a total solar eclipse once again.  Someone on here said seeing the eclipse at 99% and not moving into the path of totality is like going to Disney World and not leaving the parking lot.  I think that sums it up quite well.

Arenal is our destination ofr volcano. Costa Rica is my second favorite country - so beautiful and clean, ultra friendly Ticos and Ticas with excellent beaches. We've not explored the interior much to this point - vowed we would do more of that our next trip - which is, hopefully, this year yet. 🙂

I would agree on the last statement if you're not far from the path of totality where you don't need to stay overnight or anything.  However, even at 85-90% coverage, for me that was pretty cool.  I just did not have the time and ability to take the wife and go on a mini vacation to the path of totality.

Nicaragua was pretty dangerous.  I got a chance to bribe the cops and also pay someone to keep my rental car safe while I shopped.  However, we did get to see up close sea turtles laying their eggs on the beach ( our escorts were carrying machine gun though).  We also spent part of the day on a beautiful beach and we were the only people out there.  The volcano was really cool but the country needs to be a little safer before I visit again.  My wife picked the trip because she said it was supposed to be like Costa Rica without the tourists.  We found out why the tourists stay away, and I don't blame them.

This is super helpful.  I went back and looked at the past years and it tended to be very cloudy on August 12.  If I remember correctly, there is a coastal range that trapped the clouds along the coast that were coming off of the Bay of Biscay.  I will need to look on driving south through the mountains and that area seems a lot less cloudy on August 12.  It will give me something to think about over the next 2+ years.
