It was the most incredible thing I've ever seen.  I saw the northern lights in Iceland but the most incredible thing I had seen before was at sun set as the sun was hitting Everest and the mountain kept changing colors.  Anything I saw before today isn't close to seeing the corona around the moon in totality.

The temperature drop was amazing...was 58F on the drive over to buddy's house down the road at 2:30. By the drive home at about 5:30, temps had dropped to 41F. Had to take a pic of car themo just as proof. I thought it was just suppose to a few degrees....not almost a 20F drop. Guessing the snow helped with the quick decline...

Well all I can say is WOW.  I’ve spent a lot of time with my eye to my reflector telescope but this blew those images away.

We were overlooking Moosehead Lake in Greenville Maine.  The color changes were mind blowing. My 6 y/o grandson was amazed that Jupiter and Venus appeared.

These photos are amazing ladies and gents. Here’s my contributions. Some high clouds during the event but it really helped to filter. Had all of the experiences. Wonky looking shadows as totality approached. The temperature dropped from 73 to 64 within a matter of 20 minutes. Birds were starting to quiet down. A completely surreal experience. Just had over 2 minutes of totality.

Just got home.  Took longer than usual of course, but the drive home went much better than 2017.  Never even attempted to take I-65, and it's a good thing because per traffic maps, that looks like it is still backed up for about 60 miles.

A little in reporting but…

This was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen hands down. It was full on sun, almost not even a cloud in sight for a while and temps near  80. went to Harrison Ohio to I think Miami Whitewater Forest park or something. It was packed! Right before totality cool gusty winds happened and the temps dropped dramatically in totality. I’m so happy I was off today and was able to experience this.

Upon arrival in The Forks, we had to skip the rest area because it was full, but just up the road we happened upon a spot where a couple other folks had settled.  As we got set up, more folks followed suit.  We timed it perfectly.

 Folks were so friendly. One group had a telescope set up and let my kids have a peek. People with their families and dogs running around.  Sharing with my family was great, and with all these strangers who gravitated to the same spot was so special. 

  Even in the traffic back, which came to a halt in Caratunk, became enjoyable. Side note, the people of Caratunk will be telling their kids and grandkids about the great eclipse traffic jam of 2024 for generations.  People got out of their cars and chatted.  Met a couple from southern California who had plans to go to Texas for 18 months and last Thursday, came to Maine instead.

  As totally ended, there was an audible groan from our crowd, we all wanted more. But it's the rarity, and the very brief nature of it that makes it so special. If they happened all the time, eclipses would be less special.

  Sorry to share so much, and didn't mean to be insensitive to anyone who wasn't as fortunate, but I couldn't have scripted it better. 

Here's the eclectic group I shared my experience with.  And notice no snow, and minimal mud, almost unheard of for early April up there.

Didn't get great shots, but good enough. Hard to capture the fleeting beauty.

My thoughts/observations:

It was like Christmas morning, so much preparation and anticipation then its over rather quickly....but you don't want to miss it.

The sun is actually pretty "small" when its high in the sky.

It didn't get as dark as I expected but a couple planets still visible.

Turnpike traffic wasn't too bad other than a couple lengthy 20mph slowdowns in construction zones. (Maybe because I was in the middle of the totality zone the whole 35 mile trip.)

Is "post-eclipse let-down" a thing??

 

What else you folks got????

My family and I drove 2 hr north west to near the centerline of the totality. Amazing experience for us. The only down side is a golf  cart blocking access to a public park with a playground we planned on, and the school lot we pulled into trying to charge us $40 to park in a sparsely filled lot. Thankfully a good Samaritan walked over with a spare ticket to save the day.
