Admin Popular Post BuckeyeGal Posted April 3 Admin Popular Post Share Posted April 3 I just posted this on my weather page. You'd think that people would give weather forecasters more grace. I know we tend to be all WHAT ARE THEY THINKING at points, but it burns my biscuits something fierce when people in my circle judge them, or make fun of them, or essentially say they're worthless. No. Thank. You. Quote Hey, weather friends! I wanted to calm some ruffled feathers this morning as it pertains to weather forecasters. Those people do everything they can to keep you safe. They study for years upon end, they burn the candle at both ends, and they look at model after model (and sometimes even use their gut instincts after much experience) to make forecasts. Sometimes those forecasts pan out exactly as they peg. A lot of the time.. they don't. And that is the brutal, unpredictable truth of the weather. Think of weather forecasters more as insurance policies. They are there to warn you of (and protect you from) potential danger and possible impacts. They want you to know that there could be flooding, or that there could be high winds, or that there could be 8 inches of snow. They can't say, for certain, that it's going to happen. But by golly, I would rather be safe and have some giant storm system never materialize.. than be caught unaware and have my life (or the lives of those I care about) in danger with no preparation. What happened yesterday? All of the variables were in place. Everything looked primed to provide tornados, just as forecasted. (And granted, tornados DID occur --but they were 50 miles or so outside of the place the models said they would be.) And then between 1p-3p, we had a brief little blow-up line of (gentle) convection and moderate-to-heavy rain. It tipped the scales and removed the majority of instability from our area, and thankfully, it never recovered. I will also say that our area is still very raw and honestly fearful after the storms a few weeks ago, and I believe that peppered the preparation with a louder, more alarm-filled voice (and caused all of the closings). Take a deep breath and be grateful that what could have happened yesterday.. did not. And remember that those weather forecasters are not trying to lie to you. They are trying, more than anything, to help us be ready for things that mighthappen. With warmth (as it's most likely going to snow tonight), A 2 6

Absolutely. I posted in response to someone I deeply respect essentially trashing our local mets and saying that we should've had a storm since everything was canceled. I wanted to say.. DO YOU HEAR YOURSELF? Asking for a tornado. Good grief.

ryanruck
And now there's this... 😵💫 With surface temps what they are, most all of it is melting on contact but, this might be the most impressive snowfall rate I've seen since the start of winter.
