We'll see what NWS says, but saving grace is that it appears this thing was just about to go out over the lake before it touched down.

A NWS storm report says that there was a funnel cloud at E Chicago/Gary. I wonder if was a tornado instead.

Pretty clear at this point that it touched down.  Just a question of exactly where.

Also, would point out that water temps at the southern Lake Michigan shore are currently near 40 degrees.  So here's an exhibit to counter the myth that persists among the general public about the lake always preventing tornadoes.  It can act as a deterrence in some situations, but like many things in life, it's not black and white.

  Southeastern Miami County in west central Ohio...

* Until 500 AM EST.

* At 433 AM EST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
  was located over Oakwood, moving east at 40 mph.

  HAZARD...Tornado.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

  IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
           shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
           Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree
           damage is likely.

* Locations impacted include...
  Dayton, Springfield, Kettering, Beavercreek, Huber Heights,
  Fairborn, Xenia, Vandalia, Moraine, New Carlisle, Oakwood, Yellow
  Springs, Wright-Patterson Afb, West Carrollton, Cedarville, Enon,
  Wilberforce, Riverside, Donnelsville, and Clifton.

This includes the following Interstates...
 I-70 in Ohio between mile markers 35 and 60.
 I-75 in Ohio between mile markers 51 and 58.
