Admin MaineJay Posted January 13 Admin Share Posted January 13 No surfers hanging 10 today. Some houses might end up in the ocean along the Maine coast today. Tide is about to come in something fierce. 2
TheRex
Temp jumped from 26F to 36F within minutes once the wind started last night. It did not take much to push the cold away. I'm not if we even had any snow last night. Quote

Had a lot of this over the past 7-8 months. Things are beyond getting soggy. It's been a soggy 12 months. We went from a moderate drought in Maine to biblical rains. Would love to see some biblical snow though

Tide is about to come in something fierce. I was still living in Wells on Moody Point during the Patriot's Day storm. Was asked, strongly, to evacuate. I didn't. Wished I had as I watched water come up to the house and go around. Garage was flooded, though basement stayed mostly dry except for damp spots. Who knew 12ft above sea level could make all the difference. But that was enough for me and sold. Gotta have very deep pockets now to pay the price for damage from a big ocean storm

jbrumberg
0.87" of rain measured from this system, with 19mph wind gusts recorded. And with the cold front starting to build in I might see some snow tonight/tomorrow with a morning low temperature in the mid20ºF's. I hope to see a measurable 1". From the NWS/B-N Office Discussion: Spoiler Tomorrow: A robust shortwave and surface cold front will push across the region during the afternoon along with a strong 700mb jet of 70 to 90 knots! Why do I bring up the 700mb jet? Bufkit soundings show the boundary layer is WELL mixed and could extend upwards of 750mb to 650mb. Doesn`t mean we will mix ALL of the wind to ground level, but a fair amount, 35 to 50 mph gusts are not out of the question. Have held off on issuing any wind headlines as to not draw any confusion with our current wind headlines. The day shift or the next night shift may want to consider a Wind Advisory. In addition, there remains the potential for snow squall during the early afternoon. The latest 00z high-res guidance signals at streamers coming off the Great Lakes and racing across southern New England around noon to 4PM, coinciding with the shortwave passage and steep lapse rates. The snow squall parameter is also supportive of this potential along with some of the CAMs. This will bring the risk for localized/brief hazardous travel with the potential for roads quickly becoming snow covered and with briefly near zero visibility and hazardous travel. Greatest risk for this will be across the interior with colder temperatures. Along the coastal plain it may be mild enough for an initial mix with rain and result in most roads initially being wet. And a "Snow Graphic":
