Moderators Hiramite Posted January 12 Moderators Share Posted January 12 For those of us who can't watch the snow out our window, we can always tune into the Bills game Sunday. Snow bullseye on Orchard Park NY.

I want to see how a bunch of people from Miami deal with -20 windchill. Should be another fun one. 2

Best conditions of all. 1

I think about the physics of heating such a huge place on days/games like this. Low teens, single digits probably by end of game.

I still remember the first Winter Classis between the Sabres and the Penguins about 15 years ago - great game and made even better with the snow.

If this forecast holds, I dont think we'll see the game played at Buffalo unfortunately, forecast is almost TOO good for snow game lovers. 22 minutes ago, RobB said: Red skies in morning...... As in they might move/postpone? A couple of references from yesterday below. Let's see what today's news says.

Red sky morning, sailors take warning would DEFINITELY apply today I think we will. They only cancelled that one game because the entire stadium was literally buried under snow. 12-24 inches is just a normal Sunday in Buffalo. NWsnowhio
16 minutes ago, ryanmkay said: What has changed that the NAM now shows Toledo with 8-10"? @ryanmkay To my eye, it looks like the NAM wants to jump the low just a tad further south/east in Ohio. Snow depth on the NAM paints a different picture. Lucas County is interesting on that though...maybe an inch in far eastern Lucas County to 6-7" in far northwestern Lucas County if that were to verify. Ohiobuckeye45
I'm gonna put my yearly plug in here that snow depth maps are garbage. Carry on 🙂 But damn @Cary67 those images are fantastic and I did not expect to already see Chicago with 6'' down before the low even passed NE, congrats
NWsnowhio
Toledo met Ross Ellet had an interesting post this morning concerning thoughts for that area. *Science Behind The Storm* So what is going on? It isn't as simple as saying the storm tracked east. The truth is that there are 2 storms, not 1. The storms were expected to merge in the south and take a track from Lafayette, IN to the tri-state to Flint, MI. However, the storms have not merged yet and I don't think they will merge until they reach the area. So that changes the placement of the two areas of low pressure. The stronger southerly low pressure would track closer to us. Not only is that track a bit east, but it also changes the wind direction a bit keeping an east wind longer. That would help keep us a bit cooler and the heavy rate of melting snow aloft is a cooling process. So the heavy rate of precipitation itself can cool the atmosphere enough to flip the rain back to snow or even sleet. When the heavy precipitation moves away and the winds flip after 6pm, we should go back to rain. The set up is complex and far from textbook. WeatherJim
Western suburbs/Naperville, IL (I88 and Winfield Rd) has about 4 of very wet snow. Rain/snow mix now at the moment. The edge of the precip is getting awfully close to my location as I look at the radar.
