holds the 970s through N MI. And yet still fails to pull in true cold air behind it. More like average at best

I’m surprised at this as well. Usually a storm like this in January would bring in that cold behind it. The storm after this one also is marginal with temps. I think the cold is coming just surprised it’s not behind these systems more.

The front end thump on the 12z GFS is a thing of beauty.

Sure did.  I'll treat that as unicorn level snows but will be hopeful.  LOL...

Either way, such a potentially cool storm to track with snow or no.

It can and has happened buts its quite rare yes. Usually strong systems go north unless there's a giant block overtop.

The H5 needs to go negative tilt around or after reaching LA for OHV snows.

How do you have a freakin 976mb SLP in West Virginia with virtually no cold air wrapped around & the entire state of Ohio getting rain?! - just stupid

When models show great snow this far out, we know they are not right....watch this be the time models nail details 5 days in advance.

The 13th storm is brewing in the gulf. Let’s see what happens. (I know, wrong thread)

Storm after storm with El Ninos but tons of PAC/STJ heat release.
