January 6-7, 2024 | NE / Mid-Atlantic Winter Storm

Penn State

I am soooooo glad to have topped off at 5.5" snow topped by some sleet. The ZR sleet that fell into that, as others have reported, made each shovel weight more than my wife's checked bags going on a two week vacation!

Normally, I only break out the BigOrgangeTractor for double digits - this one I had to get it out. We not only saved so many shovels motions, by using it to load th snow into the loader, we moved is pretty far away from the house (so when Tues comes by we don't have so much mud).

This bet is looking good so far… 6-3 at the half. Plenty of snow… plus these offenses suck in good weather😄

The o/u line has dropped to 28.5 pts.  I don’t bet, but I passed along this suggestion to a friend who does.  I don’t think he made a bet, though.

I starting to think you guys are gaslighting me on this grill cover.  My Weber looks like crap after one rainstorm uncovered.  Let alone with the bird crap, pollen, sap, leaves, and all the other garbage.

Just need to wipe down the lid and side pieces a bit before each use… this is what it looks like after a rainstorm when others get a snowstorm (jus’ sayin’).

Best it's come down all day. Sitting at about 7" right now. Just finished putting the hand warmers on the snowblower. Actually began yesterday morning but had to let the epoxy cure.  At 17° I think I'll appreciate them today.

Been coming down good here for about the last 90 minutes.  Guessing about 8-10 on the ground based on my lab's tracks to go do his business

Grill shot. Really hard to estimate the snow since it was so dense earlier but reports from neighboring towns are 6-7". Getting colder and windier. About twenty miles north of Foxboro and the offensively challenged Pats and Jets didn't need help keeping the score low

What is that black thing covering your grill?  lol

15" down, very heavy snow -- about 3"/hr, 18˚ F

This post is for all those who have complaints about winter. Like hatewinterwarmth. Just move to Maine.  You get a foot of snow  and 15 degree temps all the time. Easy as breathing. Certain parts of Maine anyway. It's not hard to figure out where to go if you want winter to find you.

It hasn't been much of a winter here in Maine. Until today we had bare ground and mud, and will probably have completely bare again by the time next weekend is over. I am ready for spring.

I just measured at 4 pm and we have 8" of snow and 28 degrees.  The snow seems light and fluffy but I will find out if that is true as I am about to get on snow removal duties.  Our forecast says we may get more snow tonight and there is a line of snow to our west and will be interesting to see if it holds together to make it to my area.

15 inches and 18 degrees is a good but more if winter than most spots. Virginia at least where I'm at has had a bit of freezing rain and 30 degrees basically. It's all relative but year over year snow lovers would do well to walk a mile in your shoes. They might not love snow so much after that lol.

2nd or 3rd coldest morning of the season, only below 10° once.  I don't let anyone here complain about being cold without reminding them how "good" they've have it.

Maybe it was 2018 (give it take a year, they all blend together) where we were at like 15-20° below zero ever morning for almost a week, so, perspective.

I know most here are cold and snow fans, so I want to phrase that properly.

Hoping for enough to get the sledding hill going for the kiddos, l it's a bit "boney" if there's not enough cover.  Had feet it last year, so it wasn't a problem, they are getting antsy about it though.

It was 2018, and the dates fell/ fall on the same days of the week as this year through February 28. Six years ago was the coldest first week of January of the 73 years of Binghamton airport history. This date in 2018 saw a minimum of-7, one degree above the record low from 2014.

11.5" on the deck as light snow continues to fall.  23ºF ATM with a 21ºF windchill.  I'll probably make 12".  Tomorrow I will take a sampling of measurements for my "official measurement" before  I start moving it around with 🚜  I anticipated ~10" and got more than expected.  It will take me ~ 1.5 - 2 hours of 🚜 seat time tomorrow for snow management unless there is a "surprise."

Thanks for posting this— I no longer know how much snow is falling where I used to live, and BGM doesn’t post official snow totals for their weather station for a long time. Ivan get the water equivalent every hour, but their snow ratios are known to be unpredictable and don’t correlate with temperatures or relative humidity.
