The buoy that it passed earlier had water temps of 82-84.  And it deepened with just those temps.  Idalia is hitting 90-91 degree water.

This storm is crawling, so much so that Idalia is nearly the same latitude as Franklin. I honestly would have thought it would have been picked up by the trough by now but here we are still watching it around Bermuda.

I wonder just how much the waters will get churned up by this system and I believe it definitely left a weakness in the W Atlantic which may allow for some interesting movements with Idalia.

Oh boy

3. Northeastern Atlantic (ex-Franklin):
Post-Tropical Cyclone Franklin is located several hundred miles
north of the Azores and is forecast to move quickly southeastward
towards warmer waters east of the Azores. This system could acquire
some subtropical or tropical characteristics late this week or this
weekend while it moves erratically between the Azores and Portugal.
For additional information on this system, including gale warnings,
see High Seas Forecasts issued by Meteo France.

* Formation chance through 7 days...low...20 percent.

This is still Franklin, just off Portugal. It absorbed another system.  That's Idalia heading to Canada, which just absorbed Gert

Yea i believe franklin absorbed katia then became post tropical. Idalia absorbed gert as well. Kinda wild to see systems not getting absorbed through flow and left meandering in the atlantic. Hopefully these two can grt absorbed but franklin is an interesting one. Caught off the coast there in a semi record warm atlantic still.

Especially if we can get this cape verde storm to form the ace should push rather close to 100. If we can hold the mjo in a decent position too the end of the season wont be nearly as boring as folks expected, especially with a moderate to strong el nino out there.
