Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted June 28, 2023 Meteorologist Share Posted June 28, 2023 (edited) The segment of the line in the OK Panhandle is warned for 80 mph winds/ping pong hail. The segment in the TX Panhandle is warned for 70 mph winds/ping pongs. Unfortunately the line is building south which would eventually impact Perryton. snowlover2
Quote Mesoscale Discussion 1312 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0700 PM CDT Tue Jun 27 2023 Areas affected...Portions of northern OK into southern KS Concerning...Severe potential...Severe Thunderstorm Watch likely Valid 280000Z - 280130Z Probability of Watch Issuance...95 percent SUMMARY...Significant severe wind gusts (75+ mph) will become an increasing concern as thunderstorms spread eastward this evening. Downstream watch issuance will be needed. DISCUSSION...Convection is strengthening early this evening across the OK Panhandle and far northern TX Panhandle as it encounters greater MLCAPE with eastward extent along/near a front, with multiple reports of 4 inch hail with a supercell in Texas County OK. This activity is already showing signs of upscale growth, and this trend is expected to continue this evening as a southerly low-level jet strengthens to around 30-40 kt. 40+ kt of deep-layer shear will easily support continued convective organization of the developing MCS. There is some concern with the axis of greatest severe wind potential this evening across southern KS and northern OK, as the surface boundary/front has not advanced as far north as some guidance suggested earlier. The greatest instability axis currently extends from southwestern KS into northwestern and central OK. While some northward advance of rich low-level moisture (70+ surface dewpoints) appears possible with the low-level warm advection regime tonight, the lack of a stronger surface mass response suggests that the greatest instability will probably remain confined close to where it is currently located. Adjustments to the higher severe wind probabilities (30/45% wind areas) will likely be needed with the forthcoming 01Z Day 1 Convective Outlook across southern KS and northern/central OK to account for observational trends. Even with these concerns, the potential for significant severe/damaging winds (75+ mph) in a narrow corridor remains apparent, as a very unstable airmass and strongly sheared environment will likely support a small but intense bow moving east-southeastward this evening. Isolated large hail will remain possible with any embedded supercell. A tornado may also occur for a couple more hours in a narrow corridor across southwestern KS into northwestern OK, where low-level shear will be maximized near the surface boundary. Downstream Severe Thunderstorm Watch issuance will be required to address the increasing severe threat. ..Gleason/Guyer.. 06/28/2023

Quote URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 405 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 745 PM CDT Tue Jun 27 2023 The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of Southern Kansas Northwest and North-Central Oklahoma * Effective this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 745 PM until 200 AM CDT. * Primary threats include... Widespread damaging winds and scattered significant gusts to 100 mph likely Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events to 3 inches in diameter possible A tornado or two possible SUMMARY...Ongoing intense storms across the Oklahoma Panhandle and southwest Kansas early this evening will continue to organize and progress generally eastward this evening along the Kansas/Oklahoma border region. The preceding air mass is very unstable and low-level/deep-layer winds are seasonally strong, which will likely support an organizing/eastward-accelerating cluster of storms capable of significantly strong wind gusts and sporadic hail. The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 75 statute miles north and south of a line from 45 miles south of Dodge City KS to 20 miles northeast of Ponca City OK. For a complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU5). PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... snowlover2
Quote Mesoscale Discussion 1315 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0847 PM CDT Tue Jun 27 2023 Areas affected...Portions of southwestern KS and northwestern OK Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 405... Valid 280147Z - 280315Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 405 continues. SUMMARY...A small, intense bowing complex will pose a threat for significant severe wind gusts of 75-100 mph this evening as it spreads eastward across southwestern Kansas and northwestern OK. DISCUSSION...Multiple measured severe wind gusts ranging from 65 mph up to around 100 mph and damage reports have recently occurred in the OK Panhandle with a small bowing cluster now moving into far northwestern OK and southwestern KS. Strong inbound velocities noted from KVNX around 9000 ft AGL along the apex of the bow suggest the development of a pronounced rear-inflow jet. The thermodynamic environment in the near term (next 1-2 hours) should remain quite favorable for significant severe wind gusts of 75-100 mph in a narrow corridor across far northwestern OK into southwestern and south-central KS. Instability gradually decreases with eastward extent into north-central OK and south-central KS along/north of a stalled surface boundary. The potential for significant severe winds farther east into these areas beyond 04Z (11 PM CDT) is less clear owing to the somewhat weaker instability. Still, some severe wind threat will likely persist tonight as the bowing complex develops eastward. ..Gleason.. 06/28/2023
Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted June 28, 2023 Meteorologist Share Posted June 28, 2023 (edited) Beaver, OK, mesonet which was in the 100 mph severe warning gusted to 66 mph before it stopped recording wind for 15 minutes. snowlover2
10 hours ago, Chinook said: Does this tie the highest number of tornadoes in the state of Ohio in one day? (July 12, 1992) There's no particular mention of that. There was 28 on July 12 1992. Quote 1992: Most Tornadoes in Ohio in One Day The 28 tornadoes that occurred in Ohio on Sunday, July 12, 1992, went into the record books as the most recorded in a single day. They also contributed to the July 1992 record of 44 tornadoes in one month and a record annual total of 61 tornadoes. Fortunately, summer tornadoes tend to be weaker than spring storms and none of the 44 tornadoes during July 1992 were violent. This contributed to the absence of fatalities and only 36 injuries from the record number of tornadoes. One line of damage from the July 12th tornadoes stretched across northwestern Ohio from Fulton County to Sandusky. Several buildings were damaged and 8 people injured by a tornado near Pettisville. Another tornado cut a swath from north of Waterville across the Maumee River to near Perrysburg. Anthony Wayne High School was damaged and Toledo Express Airport closed for several hours by loss of power, large hail, and 66 mph winds. Visitors to Cedar Point Amusement Park received extra thrills when their motels were heavily damaged by a tornado near the intersection of Routes 2 and 250 in Erie County. Farther to the east, numerous tornadoes destroyed buildings and flattened trees in Lorain, Cuyahoga, Portage, and Medina Counties. A tornado in Summit County did over $1 million dollars damage to industries and homes in Stow and Cuyahoga Falls.
