Neoncyclone
Beautiful mini-supercell just to my north, totally sub-severe but great for seeing the anatomy of a supercell, rain-free base on the left, rain core on the right, I can even see the updraft, pretty sweet. PS not even sure its a bonafide mini-sup but the presentation of the storm looks just like one so it's okay. SE moving storm. Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted May 15, 2023 Meteorologist Share Posted May 15, 2023 (edited) Had numerous reports of a cold air funnel today and two flood advisories. Borger got 1.66" of rain mostly in a few hours... that's the same city that got 1.38" in a day earlier this month. Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted May 16, 2023 Meteorologist Share Posted May 16, 2023 (edited) Even the more modest GFS has an active few days coming for the OK/TX panhandles. Very weak flow aloft but should be good for at least something to watch here. Edited May 16, 2023 by ClicheVortex2014
Neoncyclone
I had been eyeballing today in Eastern Kentucky/Western Virginia for a couple days, there were some impressive soundings from the HRRR, looks like things are going a bit crazy right now. Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted May 17, 2023 Meteorologist Share Posted May 17, 2023 (edited) Got some sort of cyclonically rotating signature just southwest of it. Mesolow would make more sense than a MCV in this case. Edited May 17, 2023 by ClicheVortex2014
Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted May 17, 2023 Meteorologist Share Posted May 17, 2023 (edited) HRRR tries to develop a discrete (super?)cell just north of here. Hour prior to the development. Pathetic low-level wind speeds but more than enough directional shear and perhaps enough deep-layer shear for a supercell.
