MesoscaleBanding
For now, we've completely lost any kind of phasing (at least until it's too late for most of us). No phasing = extremely marginal cold air in the cold sector. Like OB45 said, the ridiculous amount of closed lows recently is frustrating.
MesoscaleBanding
If this does end up being another warm cutter for the OV, props to the GFS. I believe this will be the 2nd sizable storm this season where the GFS was on an island for a while & the rest of the models all trended toward the GFS as it stood its ground.

Just feels weird to to say that GFS lead the way... GFS may go to the extreme on a regular basis but it is also normally the first to see a winter storm setup. Doesn't deserve the bad reputation. You just have to divide its snowfall output by 4 order to get an idea of what's really coming
Ohiobuckeye45
after seeing the shift in the 6z EPS, I would tell everyone to brace for impact on the 12z EURO
MesoscaleBanding
GEFS mean track is from St. Louis to Toledo...getting real sick of seeing that type of track. 🤣💩

MesoscaleBanding
Also gotta say...I know we don't use the CFS for tracking storms, but it was actually the first model that I saw to be this far NW. Might be chalking up a victory for the CFS if things don't swing back SE 🤡

junior
Yea starting to look more closed low. No cold air with that. Timing helps a bit though. Edited February 27, 2023 by junior

MesoscaleBanding
It really is laughable how some of these models went from suppressed southern slider to GL cutter with a snow axis through Chicago in less than 36 hours. 1

I remember those winters years back. Nor’easter to MN cutter in one swing. 1

Jpfalcon
Meh, even with snow this late in February it probably isn't going to be around for long. Sun angle getting higher every day. My excitement for late Winter/early Spring snowstorms wanes because of this.
