Better than a clipper. That thing wanted to ride the apps but the confluence kept it down.

I see one culprit with this system. If you loop the h5 between runs, the vort is having a hard time deciding what to do in Alaska.

Still think the OV is in play, but it will be from a storm coming out of Texas. In this case you'd have cold air much further south to the west allowing for a storm track that move north-northeast up the Apps.

Swiped this from Twitter and was gonna post in the Christmas thread but I didn’t wanna offend any northeast posters. 🙂Bitter Christmas Eve following this storm regardless of snow.

Definitely going to get cold...

IMO, if it's going to get bitterly cold, I want to go for some broken records. If the GFS is correct, we have no chance of that without some snow cover. Hard pass on 2 degrees with zero snow on the ground to enjoy.

I selfishly would love the UK's 500mb pattern, but that's the western extreme imo. Too bad the model has fallen so hard the last couple of years.

will post a look at 150-168 shortly once it updates

ICON - Northern fringe clipper

GFS - Coastal

CMC - poof

UK - Cutter

Euro - southern fringe "clipper"

Sounds like an Apps runner to me then. Snow from DFW to Cleveland. I'm not buys the juiced up Clipper solution  so an apps runner would be the middle ground.
