December 21st-24th, 2022 | Plains/MW/GL/OV Winter Storm

My place in the Toledo area got about 1" with some drifts. The drifts aren't really impressive. In the city, the visibility is fine, as the ground blizzard must be worse in more rural or open road setting. I can sort of feel the 50mph gusts against the house. Toledo Express Airport had ground blizzard conditions, as the reports said heavy snow but it certainly hasn't been heavy falling snow. Wind chill is negative a lot if you consider 46mph-47mph wind gusts at this time, but the actual calculation is based off the steady wind speed, so the wind chill was -29. So it's a unique situation with disappointing snow amounts. And rain kind of froze onto stuff.

About 10 years ago, I drove through a ground blizzard in Nebraska when the snow wasn't sticking to the road, so I had good traction. I wouldn't have tried it if I didn't have good traction.

Your college friend is my new favorite on TV meteorologist because of this clip of him I just found.

I had almost every Meteorology class with him. He's a funny guy. Glad he's finally made it to a larger market.

Hard pass. Also, weird to say, but -46 seems too warm.

I also heard that they closed Winterfest for a day or two due to the cold. Never happened in my 3 years of working that. I was an iceguard but I can't imagine how miserable the rink would be in this airmass.

Holy Cow Buffalo!

I’ve literally been saying all year I want to be in Buffalo.
Imgaine me moving to Buffalo and they never see a winter like this one again 😂😂😂
they’re about to get 100” inches of snow like it’s nothing. After getting 2 feet last weekend… After getting 6 feet a month ago.
CRAZY!

Still a frigid -3 here. Haven't felt this cold out since that infamous PV drop in Jan a few? years ago.

Car had to be jump started. There was snow all up in the engine from the winds.

Eh even a bad year in Buffalo is gonna get you more snow than most of us in the Plains or OV.  They've had only 1 year below 20" and that was in 1890 lol. It's been a place I've wanted to live for a while. Went for a couple of their NWS openings a few years ago but never got an interview. Definitely a place I might move to in the future though

Back when I was in college and high school, I worked part-time at a supermarket, so he expressed the same thoughts I had every time people came in before there was a snow event lol.

Temperature has dropped to 15°F with a windchill of 0°F currently. Winds have been brisk all afternoon and the snow is coming down the heaviest and biggest flakes of the system currently. Nothing we haven’t seen many times before but the temperature drop was fun to watch.

I always say if I ever had the funds to travel at will I would like to take trips to where big storms are happening… I guess basically a storm chaser in a way 😂😂. But I would def take a trip Buffalo when they are going to get 100 inches just to experience that.

but that may make me hate SW Ohio winter more and not be impressed by 6 inches 😂

TBF despite getting 4-6" snow storms fairly easily in Ohio it never changed my attitude towards lesser snow events. I know 2-4" is far more common here in Kansas but still enjoy them all the same.

Yeah I’ve lowered my appreciation threshold the older I get. It used to be 6 inches for me to be happy 👀👀👀(bazinga)…..  that was a big storm to me then. But it’s so rare to get a 6 inch storm here. I think even now it’s been 3 winters since we’ve had a 6 inch storm. So now it’s lowered to 4 inches. That’s a “big” snowstorm to me now. But I still appreciate the 1-3 inch events because I’ve been in snowless winters before, where we only had 4-5 inches the whole winter… so I’ve learned to appreciate what I get more.. though I still hurt and get salty plenty lol.

I do like Kevin going at them. You would think ILN would make mention of the fact a blizzard indeed did happen based on criteria… I’m ok with no Blizzard warning especially when it was an outside chance we would meet criteria but if we did it actually meet it and it was indeed a blizzard it would be cool to know… doesn’t mean they failed.. it would be cool to make mention of it… they can report that we had a record temperature drop the moment we did it in the 6 hours but not make mention that we indeed had a blizzard until asked by a met on Twitter?

Rob, I saw this but hid it as I saw follow up tweets that indicated it may not be accurate/current to this storm and/or location.

I did see something about 75 being closed somewhere today but didn’t look further into it. Not sure if this is that or not.
