Mulaman984
Nice for once that trends are in our favor leading up the storm. Def not the usual for us the last few years. 1
Meteorologist Ingyball Posted December 22, 2022 Meteorologist Share Posted December 22, 2022 Measured anywhere between 1" and 2" of snow in not drift areas half an hour ago. Have drifts around 1 foot already. This video was from them. We've had near whiteout conditions since then. 20221222_075835.mp4 8

We’ve tracked this storm for so long if I squeak out an inch I’ll be happy. Model fatigue may be setting in lol. When we get to the actual start of the event, I always enjoy looking at the first couple pages of the thread to see where it started to where we actually are now. Good times to be had there lol 1
Admin BuckeyeGal Posted December 22, 2022 Admin Share Posted December 22, 2022 6z Euro was a beaut. It was included in my excited display of model comparisons, but it deserves a highlight. 1 1 1

Meteorologist Popular Post MidwestWX Posted December 22, 2022 Meteorologist Popular Post Share Posted December 22, 2022 Wow...what a tale of two systems! Story time... Our main QPF surge came with the WAA banding over southern MN yesterday morning and early afternoon. Morning hi-res guidance trended higher with QPF and banding over the TC metro. Unfortunately that's where the good news ends. Our SLRs were only around 11:1 due to fracturing occurring at the top of the DGZ. Guidance was a bit lower with winds(10-15kts) leading up to the event and our in house SLR scale suggested we'd see an average of around 20:1 yesterday... So we wasted a good chunk of QPF to pixie dust-type snow. This fear was identified early on during our morning UA sounding and several ACARS soundings (aircraft) but the uptick in QPF should have kept the forecast on track. Well the banding wasn't as sustained as I would have hoped and by 3:30 the back side of the WAA band pushed through and doubled my personal total up to 2.8" which is a far cry from 5-9" I was forecasting! Yet a few of my colleagues pointed out how our DGZ was saturated through ~8Z Thursday (Today) on those same model runs yesterday morning and that a second burst would be possible when the shortwave came into play but I've been burned before. I wrapped up work after the end of the first round and tried to get my errands in before the blizzard conditions set in. My dog hates the cold (ironic right) so I took her to the park to get some exercise in before the Arctic front kicked through... and then it happened... big beautiful dendrites began to fall. This continued until I went to bed. We had several hours of near 1" an hour snows. I measured 6.8" with an hour or so left before the backside kicked through I woke up to 7.3" new with ~5" of that falling in the second surge yesterday evening. Much higher ratio snow with very pristine dendrites. 14" depth and -12 current temp with -32 current Wind Chill. Now I wait for the main event! Good luck Great Lakes & Ohio Valley. 9

I really enjoy using it as a sanity check vs other guidance. If the RAP is happy about a solution - I wouldn't throw it out.

Moderators Hiramite Posted December 22, 2022 Moderators Share Posted December 22, 2022 FWIW, the FV3 posted earlier only went to HR29 thus eastern areas were "skimped". Here's HR60.
