Moderators Hiramite Posted December 21, 2022 Moderators Share Posted December 21, 2022 While we wait on the pokey NAM a note about the SREF's. I'll probably start up the SREF Tracker tomorrow. Some may ask why since Pivotal has SREF Snow maps available. These maps are 10:1 while the plumes use a "Kuchera like" formula. Case in point, Columbus's 21Z plume mean is 3.03", the Pivotal map has the capital city at 1.6. I don't know what one will be closer in this particular storm considering all the wind, but I'd bet we would all rather see the bigger numbers, lol. 1 2

SREF Plumes formula seems more realistic than straight Kuchera.

I feel it always does though. GFS flies but NAM is slow as hell.

Admin BuckeyeGal Posted December 21, 2022 Admin Share Posted December 21, 2022 For some reason the gif feature is posting gifs as links instead of putting the actual image up. Best course for the moment is to save the gif to your phone and upload.. or copy/paste. I fixed two posts that did that. 😊

I never compared the two but I see it has a cap at 40:1 which, after yesterday's posts, appears to be too high as well. I'll have to look more into it. easton229
To my untrained eye, system looks more robust at hour 45 than it did on the 18z.
Moderators Central Illinois Posted December 21, 2022 Moderators Share Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) if 00z NAM has its way it'll be a general 3-6" for pretty much everyone in IL/IN/OH Edited December 21, 2022 by Central Illinois

Moderators Hiramite Posted December 21, 2022 Moderators Share Posted December 21, 2022 No clue how common this may be, but I spy at H5 155kt winds at 0z NAM hour 54. It's off the Pivotal winds speed scale. 2

junior
We take an inch or so here. Luckily the sun angle isn't too strong yet. It may survive until Sunday since it'll be a glacier anyway.

Snowbelted
Since I live where First Energy considers 3 days without power a quick repair and the potential for this storm to negatively impact the local grid I finally caved and bought a portable ( 200 lbs.!) generator today. Will wire up the inlet and install panel lockout tomorrow. Hopefully I wont need it now that I have it. ( Store says they sold a lot of generators today.) 5
