Well it did it. Low end hurricane most places of course will feel tropical storm force (almost all of Florida except the panhandle). Wouldn't be surprised to see a gust or two to hurricane status along the Florida coast when it makes landfall but other than that the flooding and storm surge will be by far the biggest concerns for coastal communities. Hope they took precaution as even 4 feet or so from a low end hurricane is enough to cause damage on top of just coming off a full moon too.

Saw one report of a peak wind of 58 knots so just below 70 mph around Melbourne, FL. Looks to be going for a landfall around Vero Beach. Maybe a little more so on the southern side of track than originally thought. If this is correct it may just have enough to be able to go into the GOM briefly (no strengthening expected from this) but would change the potential surge situation in the bend of Florida and likely expand the TS force winds to pretty much all of the panhandle instead of once thought being cutoff around Tallahassee.

Really do need to watch the tornado threat in the next 24 hours and see how this system transitions. Up our way in the Mid Atlantic and SNE area would need to watch Friday evening for a tornado threat especially around coastal regions getting winds from the SE and decent vorticity still hanging on as it passes probably just west of Harrisburg and DC/BWI area before a sharper curve into western Mass/Albany area.

If meso models are correct, still rather long range for them up this way, we may only get 1-2" of rain of course nothing to pass off but the 2-4" now has pushed further west into western PA and western NY. SNE may experience a little bit of a training situation if storms do manage to develop around the area which would push localized locations into that 2-4" zone.

Could have quite the winds though if we can mix out with 40knot winds at about 925mb. Might also get a punch of winds as the low passes nearby late Friday early Saturday through MD, DE, Eastern PA, NJ, SE NY, CT, RI, Mass and further into southern VT and NH, and coastal Maine. It isn't much we haven't experienced before and grateful the leaves are off the trees in these locations (for the most part) but a SE is a bit different for us than the typical NE flow we get with strong coastals.

Nice to see a hurricane make landfall in the US that's below Category 3. That said, the strong pressure gradient in this situation makes Nicole more impactful than the official sustained winds suggest. The north half of the eastern Florida coast is taking a beating.

Video from Daytona yesterday.  Apparently some condos in the area are being evacuated due to structural issues.

Been catching up with wxtwitter.  This is all pretty amazing given that the storm was barely a hurricane, there are no hurricane winds observed, that most of the pictures/videos are from places 100+ miles to the north of landfall, and still 100 miles south of landfall set records for high water.
