cer5059
TWC must be hurting for money. They still go to commercial about every 15 minutes. I feel like back in the day the coverage would be uninterrupted.

Moderators StretchCT Posted September 28, 2022 Moderators Share Posted September 28, 2022 (edited) Latest winds on radar that I could find. Not sure we'll see winds over 140mph at the surface over the mainland. These are at 5-6k feet. Edited September 28, 2022 by StretchCT

Burr
Can see the land interaction is definitely having an effect… coldest cloud tops have clearly been dissipating.
Moderators StretchCT Posted September 28, 2022 Moderators Share Posted September 28, 2022 You can argue its not a 10 or 30 sec wind and that it's not the "surface" but it's a 158mph wind at the surface. What are the chances that this is the strongest wind in the entire system?

I don't think this much lightning at landfall is normal. Also have a small sample size of >154 mph landfalling hurricanes. But this is odd. Thankfully Ian didn't move slower than it did. Chinook
I had a feeling that this wouldn't go directly into Tampa Bay, but "do a Charley." That's just my take, as I've seen many storms miss Tampa Bay, that is, I don't think there's been a storm in my lifetime that had landfall at St Petersburg/Tampa Bay as noted, this airport had 106mph. That is a rough day.

I feel like once your in the high end 4+ it’s just luck, some of the mesos we see flying around eyes have to had gusts of 180+ and the destruction from them I don’t think we’ll really know. I’ll never forget seeing the Carley gas station eyewall video. The meso that goes threw is just amazing.
