Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted September 28, 2022 Meteorologist Share Posted September 28, 2022 Quite the active day for tornado warnings. I can't imagine it'll change that much in the next 24-48 hours given the fact that the cyclonic flow will continue bringing outer bands off the very warm Atlantic ocean waters.

Moderators StretchCT Posted September 28, 2022 Moderators Share Posted September 28, 2022 If the shear is coming from the west or southwest, I'd expect the storm to be lopsided to the east/northeast. Although there is some flatness to the outflow to the SW.

Moderators Tater Posted September 28, 2022 Moderators Share Posted September 28, 2022 27 minutes ago, StretchCT said: As someone who works on planes just like those every day, this hits close to home. Those folks had a quick easy ride to safer territory, but they weren't supposed to be in the danger zone. One tornado or microburst later, poof! Note that those airplanes were tied down. You can still some of the ropes. You can see where some buckled the wing rather than the rope letting go. Takes some intense wind for that to happen (or a period of intense gusts to bounce one of the ropes loose, which can happen with normal tie-down knots). But it happens more often than you might think. The military had 10 helicopters severely damaged (>$2.5M each) by a severe thunderstorm right here in VA this summer, though those likely weren't tied down.
