Maybe there's some upwelling going on there.

Ding ding ding!  "Intense upwelling has kept the water temperatures well below normal"... however that is about to change

Yes, NOAA does have a map for oceanic heatwaves

Major fires on Maui's western side have burnt the village of Lahaina to the ground.  Even the boats in the marina were all destroyed.  Created separate thread for this

Now this is a first I don't remember hearing about wildfires in Hawaii ever before that didn't have to do with lava.  Crazy.

Portland OR sets all time august record for high temp of 108.  It's all time high temp of 116 was set in 2021 in June when three days in a row set the new all time high. Those temps were 108, 112 and 116.  So just to level set, prior to 2021, 108 would have been the all time record. 2022 was "cooler" with only 103 being their high a couple of times and only reaching 100 6x.

Keep in mind average highs are in the low 80s there.

Waco is three days away from setting a new record for most continuous days without precipitation and second place for consecutive days with no measurable precip. Next chance of precip is next Tuesday at 20%  https://www.weather.gov/fwd/wnorain

Meanwhile Dallas and Waco begin their heatwave tomorrow with the forecast high temps for the next week being over 100 and pretty much the entire 2 week run of the gfs looking the same. Normal highs are 96, so 100 isn't that far fetched but 110-115 is.

Waco set the record for days without any precip. Days without measurable precip is a little far off though.

Dallas didn't crack the top ten this year, but had a doozy of a a year last year

Dallas did crack the top ten for consecutive days over 100 and greatest annual days.  Records go back to 1913 I believe.

Dallas also had it's second highest temp in August this year

In looking at Dallas area temps, they have had a high temp under 100 5 times since July 12.

114 was the record. 116 or 115 if verified will do it. But those are pretty far off from surrounding areas.

First storm of the season approaching CA. Nothing too crazy, but widespread rain to kick off the water year. Side note, do other NWS locales put out videos? NWS San Diego is really great with putting out content ahead of storms, or even just monthly/seasonal recaps or outlooks. Always appreciate them. Example:

Little rainy down in Florida -expecting 10 inches in 24 hrs. Maybe more

Those amounts aren't super rare for South Florida but it is very unusual for mid November. This is going into the short dry season there. Just more weirdness in a weird year.
