This is from the visitventura Instagram this week:

The rain has transformed the hilltops and the snow on the nearby mountains offers a striking contrast. I was there this fall mountain biking in those hills and everything was dry and dead.

I'm going to re-emphasize following this family as they struggle through the winter in Bear Valley CA.  Over 46 feet of snow so far this season. They have to exit off the second level deck and their neighbor's house is completely buried.  It's fascinating and while I might want to experience it for a few days, I find myself no longer envious of those who get a lot of snow.  They posted updates throughout the season, and I've been binging this afternoon.   The NWS forecast for the next few days is below the pics with 44-72 inches expected.

I have a “friend” aacquaintance  out there who is chronicling this event. He is right in the middle of it all up in those mountains.

It’s just crazy! SO many people got trapped up there with barely anything in to survive on, travelers mostly.

Granted I don't read every article on this area, but earlier in the year there were complaints about not holding back enough runoff/water and filling the reservoirs.  I would think those complainers have egg on their face now with the pending floods.
Here’s one such quote from earlier this year…These new provisions may have come about, in part, to respond to criticism from across the state that large amounts of January’s rainfall washed out to the ocean rather than being directed to storage.

Has anyone read anything recently about how not filling the reservoirs earlier in the year will help out with the upcoming flooding???

IIRC, the compliant were that there were not enough reservoirs to store the water.

That is definitely one of the complaints/issues.

Environmental regs were another major issue.  This article also mentions the risk of filling the reservoirs early in the season.

To make matters worse, they may get blitzed AGAIN next week!

Latest from Bear Valley

I’m not going to say I want to see that much snow every year but… I’d love to experience one year of a brutal snowfall like that. Somewhere 75-100 inch average sounds nice to me.
