Yikes!  It looks like a warning not to eat the yellow snow!

From the San Francisco chronicle (3/1/24 10:30pm):

Alpine Meadows recorded a wind gust of 184 mph at 9:15 p.m., at an elevation of over 8,600 feet, according to preliminary measurements. Wind gusts reached 157 mph around 4:15 p.m. at 8,700 feet at Palisades Tahoe, and by 6:45 p.m. they had climbed back to 144 mph — and then 190 mph by 10:15pm.

Stole this from someone's post on another forum but must be nws for Tahoe. This makes even Buffalo jealous. Would be amazing to be there for this one.

BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM PST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions likely, particularly through Saturday
  morning. There is a 10-20% chance of thunderstorms along the crest
  through this evening with snowfall rates of 4 to 6 inches per hour
  at times. Snow accumulations between 3 and 6 feet for Lake Tahoe
  communities, with 6 to 10 feet above 7000 feet. Winds gusting to
  70 mph in lower elevations and above 115 mph over Sierra ridges
  with significant drifting of snow.

* WHERE...Greater Lake Tahoe Area.

* WHEN...Until 10 AM PST Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Whiteout conditions with near zero visibility at times
  due to blowing snow. The strong winds and weight of snow on tree
  limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages.
  Travel will be treacherous and potentially life-threatening.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel
extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a
winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay in your
vehicle.

I assume these totals are from this most recent storm. (From the Sacramento NWS page.)

So that's where all the snow went this winter.  They're hoarding it.  Geez, guess they never watched Sesame Street and learned "sharing".

It's been a great rebound for the Sierras after a very slow start to the water year. Many places are now up to 100% normal snowpack or slightly higher after the past storm.

After 10 days of relentless tracking, all hope seemed to be lost for my trip this weekend to Yosemite. Not expecting anything, but there's some trending across models for a slight chance at some flakes overnight Sunday into Monday (our travel day home to San Diego). Any reason to put the chains on our trip out would be a bonus. Feeling like a junkie reading every AFD from here to Sacramento for any glimmers of hope, ha.

I'd argue 105 in Orlando is worse to endure than 125 in Phoenix. Brutal.

Wildfires have started. Alertfire broke up and AlertCalifornia is now the site for CA fires.  This is the Park fire around Chico/Cohasset

The area burned looks bigger than the southern half of the San Francisco Bay.  Also visible are fires in NV and Central CA.

Visible in the spoiler - not really sure what the bright flashes are.

Many places had their hottest July.  Death Valley had the world's hottest month.  Sacramento, Portland  and Las Vegas set their records for hottest month and many other cities broke other heat related records.

Been a rough go in San Diego the past ~5 days. We're not set up to handle 95 degrees with only a small AC unit. Our house was up to 90 degrees INSIDE late afternoon yesterday. Luckily things improve by Wednesday.
