Pretty wild day yesterday in San Diego. Wettest day on record for January, 4th wettest day regardless of month for San Diego proper. No flooding issues for my area, but plenty of issues around the county, including downtown which I don't think I've seen flood to that level before. Seeing some chatter that things are favorable for additional atmospheric river events for the west coast over the next couple of weeks.

I have too.. Ryan Maue on X was having a lively discussion with someone promoting an “ARK” storm.. 100” of rain in a months time.. I read it and was like, no. Then I reread it.. and apparently it’s not as far-fetched as one might think. IDK.. Maybe someone much smarter than me can shed some light on this “ARK” storm stuff.

I don't think you were referring to scripture but here is what Gods Word says about another flood...

Genesis 9:11  And I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be cut off by the water of the flood, neither shall there again be a flood to destroy the earth.”

That's the connection with the "Ark".. I think it stands for (A)tmospheric (R)iver (K)1,000

Yeah I’ve seen/read about the doomsday scenario and flooding prolonged ARs could theoretically bring, especially for the Central Valley. I don’t know nearly enough about how well something even close to this magnitude could be predicted. The Twitter noise is all nonsense and fear-mongering IMO.

But I digress… AR events happen plenty along with west coast from October - March. They tend to be focused on the PNW and down thru Nothern CA. They can and do center on Southern California, but usually we’re getting the leftovers.

CA is in for it, especially the LA area.  Not sure how they handle 9+" of rain in 10 days.

Even the NBM which is usually the most conservative.

Pretty sure they usually handle it with landslides.

San Diego fell on the low side of forecast for round 1. Still might get some scattered showers through tomorrow AM, but the .6" so far today is a good start to February. Round 2 early next week holds the great potential for 1.5-2"+ for me. Hoping we stay dry through the weekend to get a round and hike in!

A little closer in on the 24 hr rainfall.  Keep in mind LA's annual rainfall totals usually 12-14".   NYC sees about 44" of precip a year, so the equivalent would be 22" of rain in 24 hrs.  Insane.

lol, I saw this video circulating after the actual San Diego floods in January. I don’t think they found a single clip from San Diego in making it. The first 5 seconds are my favorite. Believe many are from Turkey.

...THIRD WETTEST TWO-DAY RAINFALL IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES...

...NEARLY HALF OF THE AVERAGE SEASONAL RAINFALL OF LOS ANGELES
HAS FALLEN IN TWO DAYS...

...SECOND DAY IN A ROW OF RECORD DAILY RAINFALL IN LOS ANGELES...

Downtown Los Angeles received 2.93 inches of rain yesterday,
February 5th, 2024. That set a record for the date, surpassing
the previous record of 2.30 inches, set 123 years ago in 1901.

Rainfall in Downtown Los Angeles on the 4th and the 5th totaled 7.03
inches. That is the third wettest consecutive two-day total since
official weather records began in 1877. The record for most
rainfall for two days in a row in Downtown Los Angeles is 7.98
inches on December 31st, 1933 and January 1st, 1934. The second
highest two-day total is 7.44 inches on January 25th and 26th 1956.

This is the highest two-day rainfall total for the month of
February, smashing the previous record of 6.02 inches, on February
24th and 25th, 1913.

The rainfall of 7.03 inches on the 4th and 5th is 49 percent of the
30-year average seasonal rainfall in Downtown Los Angeles (using
data from 1991-2020), which is 14.25 inches.

Rainfall for the month of February so far has totaled 8.72 inches.
Through the 5th, February 2024 is now the 13th wettest February on
record. The wettest February in Downtown Los Angeles was February
1998 during which 13.68 inches of rain fell.

Total rain for the 2023-2024 water season in Downtown Los Angeles
(officially October 1st through September 30th) stands at 13.95
inches, which is 6.27 inches above the normal of 7.68 inches through
February 5th. It is also already 98 percent of the normal seasonal
rainfall of 14.25 inches.

Rainfall in Downtown Los Angeles on February 4th, 2024 totaled 4.10
inches, breaking the daily record of 2.55 inches set in 1927. Not
only that, this daily rainfall total placed it in a tie with March
15th, 2003 as the 10th wettest calendar day (midnight to midnight
local standard time) on record, a total of 53,544 days. The wettest
calendar day since official weather records began in Downtown Los
Angeles was March 2nd, 1938 when 5.88 inches of rain fell. Weather
records in Downtown Los Angeles began on July 1st, 1877.

February 4th, 2024 was the 3rd wettest calendar day in any month of
February since 1878, and the wettest February calendar day in nearly
110 years. The wettest day in any February in Downtown Los Angeles
was February 24th, 1913 on which 4.80 inches of rain was recorded.
The second wettest occurred about a year later, on February 18th,
1914 when 4.26 inches of rain fell.
