FortySixAnd32
I think NWS dropped the ball. We had probably 60mph winds here. There's big branches down everywhere!! Can someone look at velocity around 4:51pm EST just north of Newark? Looked like a spin up.

Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted August 4, 2022 Author Meteorologist Share Posted August 4, 2022 Awesome storm. Getting ponding on the roads. All the rain today makes the stormy 5-day forecast all the more interesting.
junior
Drove right into the midst of the storm earlier leaving work around 3pm. Was torrential rainfall and very dark clouds. Lots of street rivers.
snowlover2
Nothing like the 3pm rain but this batch was still pretty damn heavy.

I got it here in Illinois as well🤣 Edited August 4, 2022 by Neoncyclone

Indicates there's something going on below forcing some slightly lower heights. Edited August 5, 2022 by ClicheVortex2014
Neoncyclone
It's been a great summer to live In Canada if you like severe weather. Honestly with the way our summer has been I'm thinking we might have a pretty active second season this year in the midwest. Really not a big difference from the setup for Great Plains drylines which makes sense because it's the same longitude and the entire West is a desert in the summer. Great Plains still is the king of drylines because it's closer in proximity to the desert and the GoM. But still. It's that time of year where I'm ready for strong systems and drylines to come back. Also gonna be interesting to live in a different region. The fall/winter/spring severe seasons should be slightly more interesting but summer is gonna be boring.

Seems the pattern over the past several years is for early season below normal temps with persistent troughing
NWOhioChaser
Sky opened up for parts of Lucas county here for a good hour. Just absolutely torrential downpours for a few localized people, including at my job. Clouds just bubbled up all around and no direction to them really. Picked up a good 2-2.5" in that timeframe.

Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted August 5, 2022 Author Meteorologist Share Posted August 5, 2022 (edited) Pretty wild. 28 hours of 78 degree dew point this summer, we average 2 per year. That’s nothing to those in Iowa/Illinois but this part of Ohio doesn’t have much corn. Also… 8 hours of 80 degree dew point, we average 1 hour every ~3 years. So we had 24 years of 80 degree dew points in one summer Edited August 5, 2022 by ClicheVortex2014
Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted August 6, 2022 Author Meteorologist Share Posted August 6, 2022 (edited) Crazy well-defined high pressure over the Plains. Western half of the circulation (some sort of southerly wind component) is absolutely full of convection. Eastern half has none. You'd expect the western half to have all the instability and the eastern half to have none, but that's the opposite of what's happening. And of course... the storms eating up the 6000-7000 sbcape in SD Edited August 6, 2022 by ClicheVortex2014

Yes, Toledo got 1" to 2.25" of rain as per radar. And now, this CoCoRAHS plot should have had somebody measuring it. Well... maybe not
