Current look at storm reports tells us that ILN is prioritizing warnings over sending in storm reports. As one would hope. We might get our multi-decadal annual average (very different from our 21st century average) tornado reports from just today. If not, it should account for most of it.

Tornado warning for Athens. If there's a confirmed tornado you bet your ass I'm gonna head down there. Been needing an excuse to visit anyway.

Tornado warning for a supercell moving into Pennsylvania. Pretty decent rotation with it.

Tornadic supercell is about to go over where I went to school. Joe Burrow grew up in The Plains. Very poor area. He was there in his parents home in The Plains when he was drafted. For some reason I doubt they still live there.

For the first time in like 4-5 hours, no more tornado warnings. Pretty solid outbreak especially given the lack of activity we've had this year.

So far, no reports of injuries or fatalities. But I'm worried about the area that had the PDS warning. Haven't heard anything from there yet.

What the heck kind of tornado is that?! It looks like something out of Independence Day.

Unlikely there was a tornado but that's a pretty typical sight for what's colloquially called a mothership supercell. A supercell with a very well-defined structure with UFO-like appearance. Well-known for being a Plains phenomena but obviously it can happen anywhere in the Midwest or South.

Did that barely miss you?

No that’s in athens where I went to college. Rarely had severe storms when I went there but since I graduated they’ve been getting plenty.

Last round of storms just rolled through. Very eerie outside… just a yellow hue out.

First pic is looking west. Second is looking east.

Not as crazy as mine was this morning, but I’m starting to think that the storms absolutely hate you and will do anything to make you mad over not being able to see the structures of the Supercells.

Only possible explanation honestly. I mean I even had a supercell develop over me and go tornado warned just east of me today.

Back up to 3 tornado warnings... 1 of which is on the east coast.

Edit: one of them expired as I took this screenshot and I didn't notice it... screw it 😄

That curved hodograph definitely favors motherships over battleships, which will usually be more linear from 3-6km as a result of strong deep layer shear. FUwaKdvVUAAHBLG.thumb.jpg.fbf42df0c33b7e53cfea00bf8b2077f8.jpg

This photo I took myself is an (ugly) example of a developing battleship supercell. You can see how the cumulonimbus cloud is leaning due to the extreme winds aloft.

Now here's a more classic look thanks to Cameron Nixon (who may have coined the battleship term)

Still no changes to storm reports in Ohio since I posted earlier. Gonna be interesting to see what rolls in. I'm guessing we'll see at least 6 tornado reports for the state, probably more than 12. I'd say the ceiling is 20.
