Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted May 3, 2022 Meteorologist Share Posted May 3, 2022 (edited) It's crazy how supercells can just shift the axis of their FFDs. And also how it apparently has an impact on tornado potential. It struggled when it was oriented northwest-southeast but it's apparently thriving as it's shifted to west-east. The orientation of the FFD is based on deep-layer winds (above 500mb), so given the fact that surface winds are mostly southerly, you'd think the supercell would thrive more when the FFD is oriented northwest-southeast because that's stronger directional shear. (anatomy of a supercell for those wondering... I'm referring to the forward flank downdraft) Edited May 3, 2022 by ClicheVortex2014

Meteorologist ClicheVortex2014 Posted May 3, 2022 Meteorologist Share Posted May 3, 2022 Thankfully it appears based on radar that the tornado lifted because the CC is rising. Still wouldn't count the supercell done though.
