  1. The temperature drop was amazing...was 58F on the drive over to buddy's house down the road at 2:30. By the drive home at about 5:30, temps had dropped to 41F. Had to take a pic of car themo just as proof. I thought it was just suppose to a few degrees....not almost a 20F drop. Guessing the snow helped with the quick decline...
  2. Estimating 14" here...was at 9" at 1:30 yesterday when I moved my car and there is now another 5" in that spot. Settled there is roughly between 11-13" in general
  3. Clearly BTV folk are skiers....love it. Did reach 32F as a high temp, although now back to 31F. Down to a flurry currently...still calling for an additional 2-4" tonight.
  4. Got my chains on just in case, but they're no fun to drive on, that's for sure. Hoping that there isn't a reason to leave again... Measure 9" at 1:30....guessing we should be in double digits by now.
  5. Just had a fire call and was able to charge out of my unplowed driveway only to hit my dirt road which was plowed this morning and tires just spun....even neighbor's Suburban with snow tires struggled on it...thinking I'm glad I didn't make it out...sounds like roads are in horrible shape here.
  6. As can often be the case, a little challenging to estimate snow here because of the wind...but estimated 7" at 9:30 this morning. Winds have definitely eased up compared to yesterday, but still blowing maybe 10-15mph. Temp at 28F....definitely a colder event than what I was expecting... Ended up with 7 fire calls yesterday afternoon/evening...mainly due to trees down and arcing power lines.
  7. Let the fun begin....lost power about 15 minutes ago.
  8. Transitioned to snow for the moment...radar looks like a heavy band of sleet is coming in. Cool (said facetiously)...looks like my little stretch of road between two mountains looks to be shaded in purple next the Route 7 sign...Mendon, VT looks to be the real hot spot though....
  9. Yup....dropping as we wet bulb since DPs are still in the 20s regionally. I'm down to 36F now. Sleet starting to accumulate in wind protected spots.
  10. Winds already blowing hard enough to cause some downed limbs on roads...heard a big crack as I was getting into my car to leave Manchester. The Merlins nesting high up in a pine tree at the Manchester house didn't seem too happy about the winds either. Already one fire call today...see how many we can rack up over the next couple days. Got a mix of sleet/rain with temp at 39F back in Danby. Kids already have after-school activities cancelled.
  11. It's got a big sticker shock...but I have a small solar array (10 panels) and a battery backup system and when we had multi-day power outages over Christmas, basically the only thing we did differently was turn off the heat pump and rely on the propane boiler for heat. I do have a gas generator as a secondary backup...but haven't needed to fire it up since getting the batteries and we've had a lot of outages over the past year. I don't know I've lost power until I get a text from my power company...it's seamless. NAM-bino coming into range and it's not really back down either....as MJ alluded to....think above 2,000' will be the primary impact zone unless snow rates can overcome surface temps
  12. 12z GFS laying down some big numbers for higher elevations...
  13. Canadian ensembles liking our chances for a clear view....
  14. I'm indecisive on what i'm going to do. My kids are with their mom and they've rented a place in the path of totality (schools here are closed for it btw). A local buddy is hosting a party...but we're not getting totality here. Feeling compelled to head north to see it...but definitely a little worried about traffic. For all the hype about it...I assumed we'd have a dark and dreary day, but stars are seeming to align here (sad pun intended).
  15. Roughly 17” settled this afternoon when i got home after skiing. So the 19.5”NWS report from my town seems legit. Unfortunately my plow guy was a no-show (probably was skiing too) so had a good trudge up the driveway. 😐 Ended up at Bromley and with bluebird skies and light winds, it was one of the most spectacular eastern powder days i’ve ever experienced. I may not be able to walk tomorrow though…
